X9015US8I application field and working principle

The X9015US8I IC is an ideal Digital Potentiometer for data acquisition applications. It is capable of providing highly accurate and robust performance when used in data acquisition systems.

The X9015US8I is a quad rail-to-rail digital potentiometer and is designed to increase the accuracy of the system by eliminating the errors associated with mechanical and digital resistors. The X9015US8I can provide accurate and reliable voltage divider resistance ratios in either bipolar or unipolar output modes.

The X9015US8I uses a negative charge-pump technique to develop its single-supply operation. An external voltage source is used in conjunction with the internal reference circuit to provide the required voltage levels across the common input and the reference inputs. The output of this reference circuit supplies the reference voltage needed to bias the differential path. A single common mode voltage is also applied to the reference input nodes to allow for higher accuracy and dynamic range.

The X9015US8I has two operating modes: Digital PWM Mode and Analog Mode. In Digital PWM mode, the reference voltage is converted to a square wave and applied to a 3-wire resistive divider. The divider is switched in sequence to form specific resistance ratios at the output. The output waveform is a square wave, with a duty cycle proportional to the resistance ratio. By varying the duty cycle, the analog equivalent voltage is set across the resistive divider.

In Analog Mode, the reference voltage is rendered into a continuous current waveform and applied to the resistive divider. The analog equivalent voltage of the divider is continuously varied as a result of the changing resistance across the divider. This allows for precise measurement of the analog voltage without the need for digital conversion.

The X9015US8I has an internal state machine for control and self-calibration. It also has an internal temperature compensation circuit that helps maintain accuracy across a wide range of temperature.

The X9015US8I is ideal for data acquisition applications such as signal conditioning, analog-to-digital converters, signal amplification and signal averaging.
