XC6124C440ER-G

The XC6124C440ER-G is a microcontroller-compatible advanced global reset IC designed to protect digital and microcontroller systems from system instability and unpredictable power supply crashes. Offering superior performance, it is available in a small, low-cost 48-pin VQFN package. It has on-chip high and low voltage supervisors to detect abnormal voltage levels with four differently programmable window and three threshold voltages giving flexibility in various applications. The reset output is logic compatible and can achieve a reset without the need of an external capacitor. The timing of the reset source is also programmable using the RSTx pin.

Working principle

The XC6124C440ER-G IC has four different voltage thresholds and three different voltage windows for protection. When the voltage levels rise or drop below the low and high threshold levels, the reset output is enabled. On the other hand, when the supply voltage fluctuates between the three selectable window levels, the reset output is disabled.

The reset pulse duration is programmable through the RSTx pin by setting the required reset settling time from 10 ms to 1 second. This facilitates reset discharge current control and smooth reset releasing. Moreover, it also provides a power-on reset functionality to ensure the MCU is properly reset when the system power is applied or the operating voltages fall within the valid operating range.

To protect against momentary voltage spikes and polarity reversals, the XC6124C440ER-G is equipped with an overvoltage protection (OVP) function. It prevents the MCU from being damaged by sudden high-voltage surges and by direct power-on reset from a low-voltage condition.

Another feature of the XC6124C440ER-G is its watchdog timer. This timer has a maximum refresh period of approximately 278 ms, and it is programmable to create longer watchdog refresh intervals (e.g., 16, 32, 64 and 128 ms). If this refresh period is exceeded, the reset output will be asserted, resetting the MCU.
