In asynchronous mode, the chip supports various baud rates and 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and is even able to support 7 or 8 data bits with two stop bits. In synchronous mode, the chip is capable of supporting up to 16 data bits and 4 stop bits. It is also capable of selecting a parity bit between 0,1 or 2.
The XR88C681J-F supports both single-wire (in half-duplex mode) and two-wire (in full-duplex mode) communications. The two modes are used in different applications depending on the need. In single-wire mode, only the transmitter and the receiver are connected while in the two-wire mode both the transmitter and the receiver are connected.
In addition to supporting synchronous and asynchronous communications, the XR88C681J-F also features an integrated error correction circuitry, which makes it suitable for use in noisy environments.
