.Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) have a variety of applications fields as well as different working principles. One such example is the XRD54L10AIP-F, designed and manufactured by Texas Instruments. This DAC is designed to provide a high level of accuracy, requiring up to 12 oscillators with closely matched frequencies, while also featuring highly flexible output selection.
The XRD54L10AIP-F’s operating voltage range is 4.5 V to 5.5 V, with a low-power operating mode available at 3.3 V. The DAC’s package extends to a 9 mm x 9 mm 24-lead VQFN, as well as an additional wire bonding pad for applications requiring such. Its single-ended output can support an output current of up to 5 mA. The output impedance is generally low, coming in at 20 Ω, but the XRD54L10AIP-F also has a strong output buffer with current limiting of up to about ±1 mA for added protection.
The XRD54L10AIP-F is highly impressive in its ability to digitally adjust the output, with a resolution of 1 in 8192 (13-bit). This flexibility allows users to utilize the DAC in a variety of applications, including: industrial and instrumentation systems, data acquisition and machine control systems, A/D and D/A conversion systems, sensors, and bi-tor wafer testing. It also provides accuracies between ±50 ppm and ±100 ppm over an extended temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, making it well-suited for many demanding applications.
In order to create its analog outputs and capabilities, the XRD54L10AIP-F operates on a voltage DAC (DAC-V) principle. In this principle, the digital input is convolved with a set of signals from 6 oscillators in order to create the voltage output. In other words, the DAC uses the digital inputs to modulate the oscillators and control the value of the analog output. This allows for a high level of precision, especially when considering the low total harmonic distortion of 1 in 8192 that the XRD54L10AIP-F provides.
The XRD54L10AIP-F is also designed to be easy to use, featuring multiple sleep modes and reset, as well as support for a variety of serial communication protocols, including SPI, I2C, Two-Wire Interface (TWI), and Serial Peripheral Interface Bus (SPIB). In addition, it can also interface with wide range of power sources, such as DC Li-ion, Li-polymer and Ni-Cd batteries. This makes the XRD54L10AIP-F ideal for a wide range of high-precision data acquisition and control applications.
