XRP7664EVB application fieldXRP7664EVB is an evaluation board designed by Power Integrations, Inc., a leading player in the power management and power conversion industry. It is used as an evaluation board for DC or AC power converters or power supplies. It is based on the XRP7664, a power factor corrected (PFC) switch-mode power supply (SMPS) controller integrated circuit (IC). It is ideal for use in various applications such as computers, TVs and other consumer electronics, industrial equipment, welder and lighting systems.The XRP7664EVB is a board that can be used to evaluate the performance of the XRP7664 IC, which was developed to provide the highest level of efficiency for a wide variety of power supply designs with power levels of up to 400W. The board is designed to support a universal input voltage range of 90-264Vac, as well as a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.The XRP7664EVB includes a trigate MOSFET stage and a fully integrated PFC preregulator, which achieves excellent performance and excellent savings on system components. The SMPS configuration used is a flyback topology, enabling the XRP7664 to operate at up to 99% efficiency. This provides lower temperature and higher component reliability when compared to conventional solutions.The XRP7664EVB enables the end user to evaluate the device\'s performance with a variety of techniques, including waveform analysis, steady state analysis and efficiency measurements.XRP7664EVB working principleThe XRP7664EVB evaluation board works according to the flyback topology. The XRP7664EVB is equipped with an active current clamp, which solves the power supply standby issue and reliably manages the turn-on of the PFC stage.The Flyback stage of the board features a TRI Gate driver and a Power Integrations MOSFET. During normal operation, the XRP7664 constantly monitors the current clamp voltage and the output power. When the current clamp voltage is triggered, the board switches to light load mode, and the output is saturated until the load rises. The TRI Gate driver is configured in a bootstrap configuration.To achieve high efficiency, the board feature a built-in pre-regulator, which provides a suitable bus voltage for the switching regulator. The XRP7664EVB features an ultra-low start-up current draw, allowing reliable operation at low-power start-up conditions.The XRP7664EVB is also equipped with several security features such as overcurrent and overvoltage protection, and a thermal shutdown of the MOSFET.
