The XRP7740EVB-HC evaluation board is designed for offline AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power applications. This evaluation board helps system designers to validate the functionality of the XRP7740 offline flyback converter, an AC/DC or DC/DC non-isolated switchmode power supply (SMP) with synchronous rectification, current-mode control, automatic burst mode for converters, and integrated soft start, overload protection (OCP), and hiccup-mode (HRTM) overload protection.
The XR7740EVB-HC board features a synchronous flyback type converter circuit featuring an integrated XRP7740 power supply from ON Semiconductor. It also includes an onboard microcontroller for feedback control, together with other associated circuitry. The evaluation board is designed to deliver an output power of 7.7W (85-264 VAC line, 12V, 0.63A) without any additional components.
The XRP7740EVB-HC is designed to provide a “snapshot” understand output power signal waveforms and operating parameters under normal operating conditions. The XRP7740EVB-HC helps designers make design decisions quickly and easily. Development engineers can measure precise AC/DC and DC/DC power figures and simultaneously pinpoint performance failures due to voltage drops, voltage overshoots, duty cycles, and/or inefficient operation of the XRP7740.
The XRP7740 used in the XRP7740EVB-HC is based on current-mode Controller with PWM control. This allows high frequency operation up to several hundred kHz, resulting in a smaller transformer design for the same power output level and reduced cost. A single input voltage range and a high efficiency of greater than 80%.
The XRP7740EVB-HC evaluation board is optimized for applications from 10W up to 77W, and comes with a variety of features to aid in its design. The XRP7740 comes with a wide voltage range of 90-265 VAC, making it suitable for international use. With an output power level of up to 12V and 0.63A, the XRP7740 can easily meet the requirements of most AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS applications.
The XRP7740EVB-HC evaluation board also features a dsPIC33FJ128EP804 microcontroller for with automated system control and hiccup-mode (HRTM) overload protection capabilities, as well as logic switching and control input. The XRP7740EVB-HC also features an on-board pinstrip that allows users to control parameters such as switching frequency, peak current limit, soft start delay, and more. The board also comes with a 3-phase EMC filter for improved the reliability of the circuit.
The XRP7740EVB-HC evaluation board is also designed to eliminate circuit board pollution due to EMI/RFI interference, and to reduce the total number of external components necessary for proper circuit operation. The XRP7740EVB-HC board comes with an integrated bypass circuit for output reconnection, which reduces the number of external components necessary for high voltage input applications. All of these features make the XRP7740EVB-HC board a great choice for a variety of AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS applications.
