The XTR106U device is a single-supply precision voltage-to-frequency converter (VFC) designed for use in high precision voltage-sensing applications. The device is available in 8-pin packages and is designed to interface directly with sensors and detectors. The XTR106U has an extremely low quiescent current and can operate with a power supply voltage range of 2.7 V to 24 V. It features a wide input voltage range of 0.5 V to 12 V and has a fixed conversion rate of 10 kHz (DPO Output Mode) and 1 kHz (uP Read Mode). The device also features a low-power stand-by mode and a power-down mode that can be controlled by the user.

Next, the voltage signal is compared against a reference voltage signal generated by an internal 1.2V reference. The output frequency signal is then generated by the internal oscillator, whose frequency is proportional to the input voltage.
The device is designed with an internal calibration circuit which resets the output frequency to the mid-range point of the predetermined frequency range whenever there is a change in the power-supply, or a change in the input signal. This ensures that the output frequency is always correctly calibrated and linearized.
The device features a user selectable output pulse type, frequency resolution, and power-down state. The output pulse types include PULSE, RATE, and FREQ high-level outputs, and ENABLE and POLARITY enable inputs. Additionally, the device is designed to be used with processors, such as the Microchip PIC16F6, which feature an interrupt enable capability, to allow the processor to perform the frequency resolution and power-down decisions.
The XTR106U is an effective solution for providing a highly linear, cost-effective, and accurate voltage-sensing interface, and is an ideal choice for any system application where a precise voltage-sensing capability is necessary.
