The ZL40230LDF1 is a high-performance clock buffer and driver integrated circuit (IC) device developed and manufactured by Zarlink on a 0.5-micron process technology. It has been designed to generate differential clock signals, while simultaneously accepting and translating a single-ended input clock signal. This input clock signal has configurable frequencies that can be selected between 0.2-2.5GHz (200-2500 MHz).

The ZL40230LDF1 is ideal for use in a variety of applications, including clock and data distribution, clock buffers, timing and synchronization in a wide range of data communication and telecommunication systems. It is particularly well suited for applications in which low-skew distribution of multiple clock signals is critical. In addition, the design flexibility of the ZL40230LDF1 also makes it suitable for use in wireline compatibility for local area networks and wide area networks (LANs and WANs).

The primary purpose of the ZL40230LDF1 is to accept a single-ended input clock signal and translate it into differential clock signal outputs. This process is accomplished by the device performing phase and frequency translations on the input signal. The phase conversion allows the output frequency to remain the same while shifting the phase of the signal in order to provide a lower skew between multiple clock signal outputs. The frequency conversion step allows multiple output signals to be created with different frequencies as long as the input signal\'s frequency remains the same.

The ZL40230LDF1 also has a variety of features designed to increase performance and reliability. These include an adjustable output power level, programmable output skew and programmable duty cycle. It also has on-board voltage regulation and a Fail-Safe (FS) mode that enables the device to act as a buffer even in the event of input or output power supply failure.
