This device is a three channel clock buffer and driver, allowing for clock and data paths to be enabled in multiple phases. The device integrates the following features:

  • Featuring line-to-line drive capability - there is no need for costly external drivers or line drivers to drive multiple loads;
  • Very low power - the device consumes around 2mA of current;
  • High tolerance to clock skews - The device has a minimum drift of 0.9ppm;
  • Very short propagation delay - the device has a propagation delay from input to output of around 0.6ns.

The ZL40251LDF1 works on a three channel clock system, one clock line covers the fast frequency, one clock line covers the slow frequency and the last clock line is used to select between two of the three clock lines. The device consists of three delay lines with adjustable length, two phase detectors and a selector that control the delay lines. The two phase detectors measure the phase shift between two clock signals and the selector uses the phase difference obtained to select one of the two signals.

The device is designed to pass either the fast frequency or the slow frequency data through the selector depending on the phase difference between the clock signals, with a minimum phase difference of 25ps. The selected clock signal is then routed to the output buffers to generate the final output clock. The output buffers are adjustable, allowing for the control of the drive strength and slew rate of the output clock.
