The ZL8800ALBFT is a DC-DC switching controller IC for both synchronous and non-synchronous voltage step-up/down and voltage inverting topologies with up to 3A switch current capability. It is a highly integrated, full CMOS device allowing for reduced external components, system costs, and increased efficiency. This device integrates protection features including over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, V bat over-voltage protection, dual mode switching optimization, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and soft-start.

The ZL8800ALBFT supports a wide range of applications such as automotive, industrial, medical, network, and consumer. It has a wide input voltage range of 5V to 18V, and a wide output voltage range of 0.3V to 19.5V. It offers a high efficiency of up to 94%, and a fast transient response of just 200µs. It also features integrated internal compensation, which simplifies the design. A user-programmable switched mode frequency of up to 3MHz allows for optimization of the device for a particular application.

The ZL8800ALBFT integrated switch uses drain-source voltage (Vds) to boost the current and voltage conversion efficiency. When the switch is “ON”, Vin and Vout are connected, and the current flowing through the switch is equal to the output current. When the switch is “OFF”, the switch must be able to support the Vin-Vout voltage difference. The device includes two over-voltage protection (OVP) circuits that help protect the input voltage and output voltage in a variety of applications. The internal phase lock loop (PLL) circuit, helps the power switch frequency to be synchronized with the output voltage. The active reset circuit is used to help reduce the output inrush current during the startup phase. The design also features under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection, which prevents the device from switching on and off at low input voltages.
