Working Principle

The ZSR900N8TA is based on a standard three-terminal voltage regulator architecture: input voltage is applied to the positive input pin, current is sensed at the ground pin, and output voltage is available at the output pin.The ZSR900N8TA is composed by an internally trimmed bandgap voltage reference, error amplifier, current limit circuitry, and a high efficiency P-channel MOSFET pass transistor.The bandgap voltage reference provides a stable reference voltage which is independent from temperature and supply voltage. The error amplifier compares the voltage reference with the programmed output voltage and generates control signal to vary the gate voltage of the pass transistor accordingly.The current limit circuitry senses the load current and turns off the pass transistor if the current limit is exceeded. This prevents excess current from flowing in to the load, protecting the circuit and the LDO from high current overload.The P-channel MOSFET pass transistor is selected to allow the output voltage to be regulated with the lowest possible dropout voltage, improving efficiency and reducing quiescent current consumption.
