Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) are solid-state devices that prevent surges in the electrical system. They are used to protect systems, components, and personnel from sudden voltage spikes. As the voltage on the diode increases, the current is increased as well. When the reverse bias voltage reaches a certain threshold, it causes an avalanche breakdown of the diode’s PN junction. This process causes the voltage to drop, reducing the current flowing through the diode to a safe level.
The SMF6 is ideal for protecting low voltage circuits from voltage transients. It has a fast response time of an ultra-fast 6ns that prevents the diode from over-voltage damage. The symmetrical construction of the SMF6 allows it to operate over a wide temperature range from -55 to 105 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the SMF6 has been designed and tested in accordance with IEC61000-4-2 level 4 and IEC61000-4-5 for ESD protection.
