The SMF60A RVG is a type of TVS diode designed to provide transient protection and clamping for piezoelectric transducer or precision load sensor. It is particularly well suited to applications requiring a fast response time with low clamping voltage, and is gaining momentum in various industries.
SMF60A RVG consists of parallelly-forward connected, dual injection surface mount Schottky diodes. Diodes are formed by a semiconductor contacting metal (Schottky metal) which combines the features of two general diode types, PN and PIN, and thus provides an ideal diode for high speed application. The SMF60A RVG has a typical reverse working voltage of less than 4V, enabling it to rapidly protect signals from high-voltage transients. The fast response time, low capacitance and high surge capability of the device makes it suitable for protecting the input and output of high-frequency, low-power ceramic oscillators, transducers and integrated circuits.
In SMF60A RVG the two diodes are placed in parallel to make a dual-diode array. The position of the diodes, as well as the forward and reverse voltage ratings, are designed according to application requirements. This dual array is designed to clamp surges of a specific value which is below the threshold of the device. It is also designed to safely dissipate transients without creating an excessive voltage difference across the device. When a transient occurs, the diodes are simultaneously fired and the excess energy is removed, protecting the device from damage.
The SMF60A RVG is further able to minimize damages from ESD events by utilizing its low leakage paths. An optimized design of this transient voltage suppressor allows the low impedance path to remain open during the ESD event. The low leakage path is also maintained during the clamping phase, providing a low capacitance path for the energy to be discharged from the device. This feature improves the device’s reliability and durability.
SMF60A RVG devices are widely applied in the automotive industry, consumer electronics, industrial communications, medical instruments, metering devices and LED lighting amongst other industries. In automotive applications, these devices are used to protect loudspeakers, navigation and multimedia systems. In medical systems, they are used to protect electrocardiographs and electroencephalograms. Similarly, in industrial communications, they are used to protect radio and audio decks.
