Introduction

AS1301A-BTDT is a low-cost, high-efficiency DC-DC Buck-Boost converter. It is versatile enough to adjust output voltage regardless of input voltage level and has excellent line/load regulation characteristics. What’s more, it is also able to control high power systems in a very efficient way.

Working Principle

AS1301A-BTDT utilizes Buck-Boost switching converter to control output voltage. When the input voltage is higher than the output voltage, it functions as a Buck converter and steps down the voltage. It is achieved by using an inductor in series with the output and using a switch to control the current through the inductor. In such way, when the inductor carries a current and the switch opens, the current doesn’t suddenly stop because the inductor acts as an energy storage device. On the other hand, when the input voltage is lower than the output voltage, it functions as a Boost converter and steps up the voltage. In this situation, the switch is closed and the inductor is connected across the input voltage, building up a stored magnetic field. When the switch opens, the magnetic field stored in the inductor collapses and causes a current to flow through the output, resulting in a voltage across the inductor that is higher than the input voltage. In addition, the Buck-Boost converter is able to maintain the output voltage to be stable despite the changes in input voltage by employing the feedback loop and PWM technology.
