The LT1218LCS8#TRPBF is a precision low power instrumentation amplifier, designed for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications. It is designed to provide a high degree of accuracy and system stability over a wide range of input conditions. The LT1218LCS8#TRPBF has a single-ended output and is ideal for applications using slow speed sensors such as temperature, pressure, and strain gages.

The LT1218LCS8#TRPBF’s working principle is quite simple. The instrumentation amplifier is composed of three operational amplifiers in a “bridge-like” configuration. The differential gain is given by: G =Av/R2, where Av is the open-loop gain of the first two integrated operational amplifiers and R2 is a Programmable Resistor (PR). To prevent oscillation, the resistor is usually chosen to be greater than 10 times the output or load impedance of the first amplifier.

The PR forms a voltage divider along with the gain resistor and sets the differential gain of the instrumentation amplifier. The gain voltage is then set by controlling the PR’s resistance, which is then fixed. Adjusting the gain voltage of the amplifier is done by either using a mechanical potentiometer or using a digital potentiometer.

In addition to this, the LT1218LCS8#TRPBF has built-in protection against offset and thermal drift. The amplifier includes offset adjustment, allowing to manually adjust the output voltage such that it is close to the output’s desired value. The LT1218LCS8#TRPBF also provides high input impedance and low output impedance, making it ideal for use with high source impedance and low load applications, such as resistance bridge amplifiers.
