How to detect the electrolytic capacitors?

     No matter what kind of multimeter is used to detect the electrolytic capacitor, it should be carried out again when the electrolytic capacitor is tested.

     1. A method for judging the positive and negative polarity of electrolytic capacitors by using a pointer multimeter.

     First, pin length identification.

     For general aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the plastic envelope of its shell is usually marked with "+" (positive electrode) or "_" (negative electrode). For the new electrolytic capacitor, the long pin is the positive pole and the short pin is the negative pole.

     Second, measurement and identification.

     If the polarity mark of electrolytic capacitor is not clear and cannot be distinguished, it can also be detected by multimeter. Multimeter RX10k gear can be used to measure the forward and reverse positive at both ends of the capacitor respectively. in the two measurements, the black watch pen contacts the capacitor positive pole, and the red watch pen contacts the capacitor negative pole.

     2. The selection method of retaining position is used to estimate the quality of electrolytic capacitor by pointer multimeter.

     When detecting electrolytic capacitors with multimeter, the appropriate measuring range should be selected according to the capacity of the capacitance to be measured, generally there are the laws listed in Table 1.

     Table 1 selects the appropriate range according to the capacity of the capacitance under test.

     The capacitance is charged forward and backward by using the internal battery of the multimeter, and the capacity of the capacitor can be estimated by observing the swing amplitude of the multimeter pointer to the right. The larger the capacitance of the capacitor is, the greater the charging current is, and the greater the swing of the pointer is.

     3. The method of judging the quality of electrolytic capacitors by pointer universal meter resistance measurement method.

     Table 1 is to use MF- 500 multimeter to detect the normal charge-discharge resistance of various electrolytic capacitors, which can be used as a reference for predicting the quality of electrolytic capacitors. The positive pole of black watch pen is used for detection, and the measured value of red watch pen negative pole is taken as the standard. The electrolytic capacitor should be discharged before it is measured.
