Solar powered multi-sensor platform for wireless sensors

There are no power connections and no batteries, only solar cells, and multi-sensor platforms are operated by ON Semiconductor. It is based on a microcontroller with a Bluetooth radio transceiver RSL10 and Bosch sensors.

In the past only solar cells, the multi-sensor platform was RSL10-SOLARSENS-GEVK's ON Semiconductor and the operating Bluetooth microcontroller RSL10. With it, no battery, no mains IoT sensor can be developed to continuously supply energy from light energy through energy harvesting. Microcontrollers for multi-sensor platforms use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for data exchange over the air.

A combination of extremely power-efficient radio communications, a small solar cell with a short active phase and sensor applications enable a completely maintenance-free IoT sensor node-sensor node that can be operated entirely from renewable energy sources from the sensor's environment through energy collect.

The semiconductor uses a SIP RSL 10, system-in-package on a solar-powered multi-sensor platform, where the IC RSL 10 is integrated with the microcontroller and radio transceiver for the Bluetooth 5 SoC with other passive components and antennas. It is complemented by Bosch sensors from low-power sensors: capable of detecting environmental sensors BME280, pressure, temperature and humidity, and the three-axis accelerometer BMA400.

Potential applications that can be developed using solar multi-sensor platforms include smart home and building automation such as HVAC control, window/door sensors and air quality monitoring. Asset tracking, including package on/off detection, burst monitoring, and temperature and humidity recording are other possible applications.

For a simple development all semiconductors, multi-sensor platform RSL10-SOLARSENS-GEVK all design files - Gerber, circuit diagrams and accessories list - and a customizable source code as a CMSIS software package (Cortex microcontroller software interface standard) ready a part of.

" Following the success of the RSL10 Sensor Development Kit, we are pleased to partner with ON Semiconductor in a new, ultra-modern, fully solar-powered development," said Dr. Peter Weigand, Vice President of Marketing, Bosch Sensortec. “The BMA400 is the first true accelerometer with extremely low power consumption, which does not compromise performance.”
