Components with self-inductance are called inductors ( inductive coils ), and the inductors with mutual inductance are called transformers,which play a role of AC voltage transformation in electronic products,the role of current transformation,transfer power, and impedance transformation.They are electromagnetic induction components made of insulated wire ( such as enameled wire,yarn package, etc).The inductor is generally composed of a skeleton,a winding,a shield,a package material,a magnetic core, or an iron core.

Classification of Inductors 

Operating frequency can be divided into high frequency inductors, intermediate frequency inductors and low frequency inductors.

According to the purpose,it can be divided into oscillation inductor,calibration inductor,choke inductor,filter inductor,isolation inductor,compensation inductor,power transformers,audio transformers,mid-week transformers, high frequency transformers,etc.

By structure.It can be divided into wire wound inductor and non-wire-wound inductor,and can be divided into fixed inductor and adjustable inductor.

Is it adjustable according to the inductance.It can be divided into fixed inductor and variable inductor.

According to the core material.It can be divided into a hollow inductor,an iron core inductor and a magnetic core inductor.

Second, the main parameters of the inductor.

The main parameters of the inductor are inductance,allowable deviation,quality factor, partial capacitance and rated current.

Inductance. The inductance is also called the self-inductance coefficient,which is a physical quantity that represents the self-sensing ability of the inductor.The inductance of the inductor is mainly determined by the number of turns ( turns ) of the coil, the way of winding, the material with and without magnetic core and the core. Usually, the more the coil is, the more concentrated the coil winding,the greater the inductance.A coil with a magnetic core is larger than a coil without a magnetic core; the greater the magnetic conductivity of the core,the greater the inductance.The basic unit of inductance is Henry, which is represented by the letter " H ".The commonly used units also have no enjoy ( mH ) and micro enjoy ( H ), and the relationship between them is : 1H = 1000mH,1mH = 1000H.

Permissible deviations. Permissible deviation is the allowable error value of the nominal inductance of the inductor and the actual inductance.Generally,the inductors used in circuits such as oscillation or filtering require high accuracy,and the allowable deviation is 0.2 % ~ 0.5 %;however,the accuracy of the coil used for coupling and high frequency resistance current is not high,and the allowable deviation is 10 % ~ 15 %.

Quality factor.Quality factor,also known as Q value or superior value,is the main parameter to measure the quality of the inductor.It is the ratio of the inductive reactance and the equivalent loss resistance of the inductor when working at a certain frequency,the higher the Q value of the inductor is,the smaller the loss,the higher the efficiency.The quality factor of the inductor is related to the DC resistance of the coil conductor,the dielectric loss of the coil skeleton,and the loss caused by the iron core and the shield.

Distributed capacitance,rated current.The distributed capacitance is the capacitance between the turn and turn of the coil and between the coil and the magnetic core.The smaller the distributed capacitance of the inductor is,the better its stability is.Rated current refers to the maximum current value that the inductor is allowed to pass when it is working.If the operating current exceeds the rated current,the performance parameters of the inductor will be changed due to heat,and even will be burned due to over-current.

Third,the detection of inductor.

The multimeter is transferred to the ohm gear,and the two ends of the inductor are detected:if the resistance value of the measured inductor is zero,there is a short circuit fault inside;if the value of DC resistance of the measured inductor is directly related to the enameled wire diameter and the number of coils used for winding the inductor coil,as long as the resistance value can be measured,it can be considered that the color code inductor is normal.
