The flip-flops in the register only require that they have the function of setting 1 and 0, so both the SR latch and the D flip-flop or the JK flip-flop are used , you can form a register. Since the D flip-flop is simple and has a set of 1, set 0 function, so the register is generally composed of D flip-flops.
The register has a public input / output terminal, a enable control terminal, and a clock signal input terminal. Generally, the enable control terminal is used as the selective signal of the register circuit, and the clock signal is used as the data input control signal.
2. Shift register is a register with shift function. The register only has the function of storing data or code, and sometimes in order to process the data, you need to use the data of the register under the shift control signal, move to a high position or move to a low position in turn. The so-called serial refers to a signal line in order to pass the various bits of data, the advantage of this method is to save the wire, suitable for long-distance transmission, in general, the telephone lines and cable lines are transmitted in serial mode. Parallel refers to the use of multiple signal lines to transmit data at the same time, this method requires a number of wires, only suitable for short distance transmission, the data bus and address bus in the computer are all transmitted in parallel. The data register function is only the basic function of the shift register, and the shift register is often used for serial / parallel conversion, the shift register is also often used in the multiplication and division of the data, because the binary data is shifted to the left by a bit equal to 2 and the right one is divided by 2.
