1 Introduction

Near Field Communication (NFC) is now integrated into everyone's digital life, such as transportation, security, payment, mobile data exchange and tags. It is a short-range wireless communication technology first developed by Sony and NXP. After that, TI and ST have made more improvements on this basis, making NFC more widely used and cheaper in consumer electronics. It is now also being used for programming outdoor LED drivers.

NFC is basically derived from radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and uses a 13.56MHz RF frequency for transmission. In the distance of 10cm, the bidirectional transmission speed is only 424kbit/s.

NFC technology will be compatible with more devices, providing more possibilities for an ever-growing future.

2, Working mechanism

NFC devices work in both active and passive states. The programmed device works primarily in passive mode, which saves a lot of power. An NFC device in active mode, such as a programmer or PC, can provide all the energy needed to communicate with a passive device through the RF field.

The figure below explains how NFC devices work together.

NFC complies with the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA) 340 and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) TS 102 190 V1.1.1 and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 18092 standardization indicators, such as: NFC equipment Modulation scheme, coding, transmission speed and frame format of the radio interface.

3, Compared with other agreements

The following table summarizes why NFC is the most popular wireless near field protocol.

4, Using NFC programming special LED driver power supply

Taking into account the simplification, cost and reliability of the drive power supply, UTECH has chosen NFC as the programmable technology for the drive power. Utech is not the first company to use this technology to program the drive power. However, UTECH is the first to use NFC technology in the IP67 waterproof class. It is internally equipped with timing dimming, DALI dimming and constant lumens output (CLO).
