How to detect the AC voltage/current and DC voltage/current with using a multimeter?

Last Update Time: 2019-02-22 13:54:44

1. Methods for detecting AC voltages.

(1)Insert the red meter pen of the digital multimeter in the "V.Q" Jack and the black meter pen in the "COM" socket (hereinafter the same, not repeated).

(2)In the detection of AC voltage, the range selector switch of the digital multimeter should be transferred to the AC voltage baffle first, and the red and black meter pen should contact the two ends of the detected voltage respectively.

1) If it is known that the detected AC voltage is about 220 V, the range selection switch can be directly transferred to the AC 250V baffle.

2) If the AC voltage detected is innumerable, the range selection switch should be set to the maximum AC voltage, and then gradually reduce the range, until the correct value can be detected.

2.Methods for detecting DC voltage.

First, detection method.

In the detection of DC voltage, the range selection switch should be first switched to the DC voltage block, the red meter pen shall be connected to the positive pole of the power supply of the line or equipment to be detected, and the black meter pen shall be connected to the negative pole of the detected line or equipment power supply, Other methods are the same as those described above for detecting AC voltages and are not restated.

Second, the problems that need to be paid attention to.

When using digital multimeter to detect DC voltage, it is necessary to pay attention to the difference of measuring range and accuracy.

For example, when a digital multimeter is used to detect the DC voltage of a 1.5 V dry cell, the voltage results detected using different ranges cannot be measured with a large range to detect a small DC voltage.

3.Methods for detecting AC currents.

First, change the red table pen.

When using digital multimeter to detect AC current, red meter pen should be inserted into "mA"socket; if AC current detected is more than 200mA, red meter pen should be inserted into "10A" socket.

Second, detection method.

According to the size of the detected AC current, the range of the AC current block is reasonably selected, and then the two table pens of the digital multimeter are connected in series in the detected circuit.

4.Selection of appropriate baffles and sockets when measuring current.

In use and measurement, special attention should be paid to the selection of switch baffles and the four socket positions of the bar. The warning number "MAX" and the maximum limit of "MAX" on the side of the four sockets are meant to do so, especially when measuring the large current and voltage, the baffles and sockets should be in accordance with the actual situation, otherwise the multimeter will be damaged.
