1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT Application Field and Working Principle
The 1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT is a bi-directional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode built on a low-profile surface Mount (SM) package. It is specially designed for surge protection solutions in automotive electronics. This diode has an excellent surge clamping capability which can clamp surge voltage up to 156V for the 1.5KE series. It is used in high-performance protection against high and transient voltage in automotive applications.The main purpose of the 1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT is to protect semiconductors from voltage transients like load dump, induced transients and electrostatic discharges. Its working principle is based on the Zener breakdown phenomenon. When internal stress in the diode exceed its breakdown voltage, the diode breaks down and the excess energy is dissipated as heat. The diode then enters a reverse bias breakdown mode and clamps the voltage below the rated breakdown voltage, thus protecting the connected devices. The 1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT is designed to absorb transient energy and then self-restore to its normal operating voltage.
The 1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT diode is widely used in consumer, automotive and industrial applications. It can be used in conjunction with a variable resistor for low-speed logic interface protection. It can also be used with other protection components such as Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs), Motor Protection, Line Protection, Surge Suppression, Telecommunication Protection and Computer Network Protection solutions. It is ideal for automotive applications including ECU’s, Fuses, Wiring Harness, Connectors, Battery Chargers and Motor Control systems.
It is important to note that the 1.5SMC100A-E3/9AT diode has a maximum peak power rating of 3 Watts with IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±2,000V contact discharge 8/20μs waveform. It has a rated voltage of 100V and an operating junction temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. It is also RoHS compliant and lead-free.
