Working Principle

The 1.5SMC27A V6G is designed with a conduction or avalanche breakdown mechanism. This mechanism helps the diode to prevent the flow of large surge currents and also protect against electrostatic discharges (ESDs). The diode works as follows:

When the voltage across the diode exceeds the avalanche breakdown voltage, the diode begins to conduct and clamps the voltage to a safe level. This stops the flow of electric current and provides protection to the system. The diode starts conducting and discharges the current in a very short time frame and then stops conducting till the voltages normalize.

The device offers excellent ESD protection, thanks to its fast break-down response time and ultra-low leakage current of just 1 nA (typical). Additionally, the device operates across a wide temperature range of -55℃ to +175℃ and provides superior ESD protection of up to 4 kV.
