Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, such as the 107KBM100M, are electronic components consisting of two aluminum foil electrodes separated by paper or oil-filled paper. The electrolytic capacitors operate by forming a metal oxide layer on one of the aluminum foil electrodes by immersing it in a liquid electrolyte (mostly in aqueous form). The electrolyte acts as a medium for the formation of a thin metal oxide layer on one of the capacitor\'s armatures orbiting electrons to act as a dielectric between the two aluminum foils.

The metal oxide layer is formed as part of the capacitor\'s construction.
