The required spacing of the pin pattern and pin lengths are governed by the mechanical connection requirements of the mating connector or load device (e.g., relays and SSRs). As the number and type of pin combinations increase, so does the complexity of identifying and verifying the configuration of the two connector types.

Utilizing terminal blocks to combine conductors allows a more efficient design with less wiring, complexity and cost. No soldering or special tools are necessary; contact leads can be inserted with a simple plug. In addition, terminal blocks provide a variety of features, such as removability, insulation, grounding, and break-before-make connection.

Terminal blocks also offer the possibility of rearranging functions in a device. Because the contact leads are removable, any number of combinations can be created without having to replace the entire connector. This can save valuable time and eliminate rewiring when changes to the circuit are needed.
