Terminal blocks – headers, plugs and sockets are the simplest of all connection systems. They provide a reliable, low-cost method of connecting two or more wires or cables electrically. The simplest application of terminal blocks would be used to terminate the ends of conductive wires either to provide electrical continuity or to provide a physical connection point between two devices.

A terminal block provides an electrical connection between two points on a circuit, such as a ground terminal or a power source. Traditionally, these blocks are made of solid metal with one or two post-holes that serve as contact points. The two posts, which can vary in diameter, are placed in designated spots on the block and held in place by screws for a secure connection.

Terminal blocks are primarily used in industrial and commercial applications, as well as for residential applications. In these applications, the terminal block facilitates various types of electrical connections such as data communications, AC or DC current, and switching signals. The working principle of a terminal block is quite simple. Most terminal blocks are designed with two or three conductive connections that are connected together in a parallel arrangement. The first connection supplies a negative voltage, while the second connection accepts a positive voltage. When a signal is passed through the two connections, a voltage difference is created that is used to activate or deactivate components on the system.
