1KSMB150A is a diode clamping device with multiple semiconductor components designed to protect electronic equipment and components in high-power transient voltage applications. 1KSMB150A is part the Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diode family and provide enhanced protection from instantaneous over-voltage and reverse-voltage transients. They are suitable for applications such as Audio and Video equipment, Hard Disk Drives, low-voltage power supplies, USB ports and general-purpose switches.
This TVS diode is designed to reduce the high-power voltage transient strength by providing a low-impedance impedance path to ground. The diode has an integrated avalanche breakdown diode, which clamps the voltage to a safe level, preventing further damage to the electronic component. The evaluation of the clamping voltage of 1KSMB150A is determined mainly by its layout design, semiconductor material and the junction diode structure. Furthermore, the internal protection diode is supported by a temperature-controlled heat sink, allowing for greater temperature stability.
The working principle of 1KSMB150A works when an over-voltage or reverse-voltage exists that exceeds the reverse-blocking capability of the diode. The reverse-voltage breakdown causes the diode to avalanche and, as a result, the voltage across the diode is clamped to a safe voltage level. The current passing through the diode is thus limited, preventing overheating and potential damage to the device. Additionally, the diode may be used for current-limiting or other low-voltage surge protection measures.
The 1KSMB150A is capable of withstanding a continuous reverse voltage of up to 150V and can handle peak surge currents of up to 2.0A. In addition, the diode can withstand a maximum surge voltage of 4.5V and a maximum rated operating temperature of 125 degrees Celcius. This TVS diode has a total resistance of 0.25ohm and is capable of withstanding continuous input power levels of up to 4.5W.
