The 1KSMB24A M4G is a unipolar thyristor voltage suppressor (TVS). It is used in many different application fields to protect sensitive electronic devices from high transient voltages, often caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD) or other interference. As a response, the M4G is designed to dynamically limit the incoming voltage to a safe level while redirecting it and protecting the circuitry from damage.Working Principle
The M4G is a solid-state, silicon-controlled switch, or SCS. It contains an anode, a cathode, and a gate. An electrical signal applied to the gate of the M4G triggers a conducting path between the anode and cathode, allowing current to flow.When transients happen, incoming voltage is detected by the anode and the gate, causing the internal SCS to respond quickly. The current is then thermally limited and redirected away from affected circuitry within nanoseconds. Any remaining transients above the protected level will be shunted to ground, ensuring no damage to the electronic device.Applications
The 1KSMB24A M4G is designed for a vast range of applications, such as computer motherboards, cell phones and other hand-held devices, portable electronics and audio/video equipment, consumer electronics, and automotive applications.As the latest generation of TVS diodes, the M4G has been tested and found to provide better protection in the most harsh transient voltage environments. This makes it especially suited for applications that must deal with high levels of ESD, such as Blu-ray players, routers, USB hubs, and other forms of equipment and connections sensitive to higher ESD levels.Due to its low capacitance and fast response times, the M4G is also an ideal choice for serial communication lines, such as Ethernet, CAN and RS-232. Where there are needs to protect data lines from EMI, the M4G can suppress rings and other false signals in communications before they interfere with the operation and performance of the receiver.Conclusion
