1N3525A is a single zener diode with center tap, primarily intended for use in stabilized power supply applications with the center tap being tied to a suitable external reference supply. Under these conditions, good regulation and dynamic response are obtained. It is particularly useful in many types of regulated power supplies.The 1N3525A is constructed of a glass-encapsulated junction isolated from the body and center tap. The junction is built to conform to the military requirements of MIL-STD-883D. Zener diodes are composed of one positive plate and one negative plate and a unidirectional current flow. When a potential difference is applied between the two electrodes, the current will start to flow in the direction of the anode.When a positive potential difference is applied between the two electrodes, electrons flow from anode to cathode and a forward voltage develops across the diode. When the applied voltage is less than the breakdown voltage of the diode, the current flow is limited. If the applied voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage, the diode\'s current begins to increase exponentially. This increase in current is known as the zener breakdown.The 1N3525A Zener diode has a breakdown voltage of 8.2 volts and can handle a current up to 1 A without exceeding its maximum power rating of 8 W. The Zener device is rated to endure up to 500 mA and integrates snapback protection, which will prevent its base-collector junction from exceeding the breakdown voltage under abnormally high currents. Under normal-circumstances current will flow freely from anode to cathode. However, reverse breakdown will occur if the potential difference is reversed. This is known as the Zener diode effect. The breakdown voltage of the 1N3525A is fixed and not adjustable, but integrated temperature-compensation makes sure it stays as accurate as possible.The 1N3525A Zener diode is widely used in design of power supply. The working principle of the zener diode in a power supply circuit is as follows:When the load connected to the output is low, the voltage across the zener diode should be equal to the breakdown voltage of the diode, that is 8.2V. At this time, the voltage regulator is in its linear region and it behaves as a constant current regulator.When the load connected to the output is high, the voltage across the zener diode reduces and its current threshold is reached. At this time, the voltage regulator enters its saturated region and behaves as a voltage regulator. It supplies the load with the required voltage irrespective of the load current. Thus, the Zener diode establishes the required regulation voltage in the power supply design.In addition, a Zener diode can be used in voltage regulator circuits to protect the circuit components from transient voltage spikes. It can also be used in various other electronic circuits to prevent overvoltage and provide a reliable source of voltage for the circuit.Overall, the 1N3525A Zener diode is a versatile device with many applications in power supplies, voltage regulation and protection circuits.
