Introduction of 1N4722
1N4722 is a rectifier diode used in power supplies and general rectification applications. It is available from rectification up to 1000 volts, up to 10 amps. It is a single diode with an anode and a cathode. It is manufactured from an epitaxial layer of silicon on an N–type substrate. The conduction of the two layers is reversed when a sufficient voltage is applied to the anode side.Application Field
1N4722 rectifier diodes are widely used in different electronics applications. The primary application is in rectification of AC to DC power supplies. In AC to DC power supplies, the diode is typically used as the input diode. This diode helps to prevent the current from conducting in reverse direction, while allowing positive (forward) currents to flow. Additionally, the diode is also used in DC to DC converter circuits, such as in linear regulators. This diode also find great use in protection circuits, by limiting over currents and surges in the power lines. Furthermore, 1N4722 rectifier diodes are applicable for a wide range of electronic applications, including power output stages for audio equipment, switching power supplies, relay drivers and many more.Working Principle
1N4722 diodes work based on the diode conduction properties. When the diode is forward biased, the forward current starts to flow from the anode to the cathode. In this condition, conduction of holes and electrons are allowed from the N-type substrate to the P-type epitaxial layer. The flow of electrons and holes is known as forward bias conduction. This forward bias also allows the electrons at the anode to flow to the cathode, leading to conduction.When the junction is reverse biased, the electrons and holes can\'t conduct due to the depletion region formed at the junction, which makes the diode unidirectional. In this condition, hole flow stops at the N-type substrate and the electrons at the P-type layer stops due to the resistive depletion region.Conclusion
