Working Principle

1N5259B-TAP zener diodes operate on a simple principle. When no voltage is applied across it, the diode does not conduct any current. This current, called the avalanche current, is limited by the zener voltage, that is, the breakdown voltage at which the diode starts conducting current. As such, the diode produces a stable voltage output across its terminals, regardless of the changing input current.
