TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes are essential protection components used in a wide range of electronic systems. TVS diodes are based on reverse-biased Zener diodes, which are configured to prevent voltage spikes, surges and electrostatic discharges (ESD) which exceed a pre-set threshold level, from entering and damaging sensitive circuits. The 1N6131US is a low capacitance, high-speed, low-clamping-voltage TVS diode, specifically designed for high-frequency signal line protection applications. Application Field:

The 1N6131US is used extensively in high-frequency signal line protection applications, such as in computers, telecommunications and consumer electronics. It is widely used for ESD protection and surge protection of data lines between external devices and a controller. This includes data lines of USB, HDMI, Ethernet, FireWire, SATA, LVDS, I2C, etc.

Working Principle:

The 1N6131US TVS diode is constructed of a pair of reverse-biased Zener diodes in series. Under normal circumstances, the Zener diodes don’t conduct current, as the voltage across them remains generally below the threshold voltage of the Zener diodes. However, when a voltage surge or ESD event occurs, the voltage across the Zener diodes exceeds the Zener voltage, and current begins to flow through the diodes, bypassing the protected circuitry. This provides protection against voltage surges, ESD events and other transient voltages. The 1N6131US has a low capacitance of 0.30pF across the series Zener diodes, making it ideal for high-frequency and signal line applications, and also a low-clamping voltage of 3.5V, making it suitable for data lines requiring a low-voltage ESD clamp.
