PMT4120/TR7: Application Field and Working Principle
PMT4120/TR7 is a type of single zener diode which operates as an electrical component used to regulate voltage. It\'s a heavily doped PN junction diode having a highly defined reverse breakdown voltage value and an exceptionally well behaved electrical characteristic in a very small physical size. It\'s commonly used in voltage regulator circuits, DC-DC converters, battery powered applications and transient suppression applications.

Nominal Operating Conditions
The PMT4120/TR7 series has been nominally rated to operate for at a Reverse Voltage of 5.1 V (or 4.0 to 5.1 V), Current of IZT of 20 mA with Maximum Zener impedance of ZZT maximum of 1.0 Ohm, or ZZK maximum of 0.3 Ohm at VZK. Male and female pins, respectively. Panels and terminals have different dimensions depending on the specific application.
Applications
The PMT4120/TR7 is specially designed for low voltage applications, such as voltage regulator for DC-DC converters, battery powered applications, transient suppressors and voltage regulator circuits, audio applications such as amplifier/mixer circuit, switches, and microphone applications. Working Principle
PMT4120/TR7 behaves similarly to other zeners, and its working principle is based on the heavier doping of a PN junction diode. The PN junction diode is modified to have a higher zener voltage and a relatively low zener impedance, as each PMT4120/TR7 is highly and differently stored, ranging from 4V to 5.1 V. When a reverse voltage is applied to a PN junction diode, the electrons from the n-side of the junction overcome the voltage and conduct from the n-side to p-side and forming a reverse current which flow unchecked. The adjustable series resistor use for the circuit can then be fixed for each different application.
