The 1PMT5940BE3/TR7 is a single Zener diode, commonly used in a variety of applications. Working Principle:

The 1PMT5940BE3/TR7 works on the principle of Zener breakdown. In reverse polarity the electric field across the diode junction increases, reaching a point where the junction breaks down and conducts heavily. This breakdown voltage is specific to the type of diode, and is known as the Zener Voltage, VZ. This voltage is normally a few volts above the source voltage. When the voltage source reaches a certain level that is equal to or higher than the Zener Voltage, the diode will enter into a Zener breakdown state, allowing the current to flow through the diode in the reverse direction. This will cause the voltage across the diode to remain constant, regardless of the voltage at the Zener diode. In the forward direction the 1PMT5940BE3/TR7 behaves like a regular diode except for its low forward voltage drop. When forward biasing the diode, the current flows primarily through the diode, with only a negligible amount through the Zener breakdown region.
