A TVS diode, or Transient Voltage Suppressor, is a specially designed diode device that has been engineered to protect sensitive electronics from electrical transients caused by electrical noise, power surges, lightning strikes and other types of overvoltage conditions. The 1SMC33A TR13 is a TVS diode specifically designed to absorb large amounts of energy, preventing their further propagation and thus protecting the sensitive electronic devices from possible damage.

The 1SMC33A TR13 is unique in that it has a two-terminal junction form which is basically a voltage breakdown device.
