In the fields of RF and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, absorption materials are used to tremendously reduce the emissions of electromagnetic energy from electronic devices, while also protecting them from RFI and EMI interference. It is also important to ensure that the shielding and absorbing materials are installed properly. For example, gaps between shield walls and cable connectors should be avoided. If the shielding materials do not properly cover the area, then the transmission of electromagnetic radiation will not be reduced as much as it would have been. There are a number of factors to consider when choosing the best shielding and absorption materials for a particular application, such as the type of material, the electrical conductivity, and the attenuation levels.
