TVS – Varistors, MOVs
Varistors, also known as metal oxide varistors (MOVs), are components designed for use in electronic circuits. The MOVs are made up of sintered zinc oxide pellets that are connected in parallel between two contact plates. The pellets are formed from a combination of ceramics and metal oxide, which are then hot-pressed together and then sintered. The current-limiting characteristics of the MOVs are determined by the Varistor Voltage Rating of the component selected, which is based on the size and resistance of the pellets used in its construction.
