Working principle

The 24VL014HT/MS memory consists of a single flash chip, a photosensitive write/erase gate, two programmable input/output I/O pins, a power interface, and a serial interface. The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) protocol is used as the control interface between the host and the flash. The Photosensitive Write/Erase gate is a unique feature of this memory which is composed of a diode and an anti-fuse element. By applying a negative voltage to the erase gate, the anti-fuse element will be broken, allowing complete erase of the flash cell.

The flash cell includes two transistors, including a write gatel and an erase gate. When the control voltage is applied to the write gate, the charge can be programmed into the cell. Conversely, when the control voltage is applied to the erase gate, the cell can be erased. The internal wall between each two cells isolates the current to each cell, and thus combines the two gates into one, allowing data to written and erased through a single Photosensitive write/erase gate.

24VL014HT/MS supports Common Flash Interface (CFI) standard. This allows the host to query the memory and detect the memory\'s work mode and identification information. All of this information, including the chip size and block size, is stored in the Serial Flash Identification Register (SFIR). This allows the host to access the memory in an efficient manner.
