The 25LC1024-I/SM is a multi-purpose non-volatile memory embedded in a super small package. It comes with a 1,048,576 bit metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) random access memory (RAM) and an electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). It is commonly used in applications such as data logging, computerized car navigation systems, digital watches, cell phones and cameras.

25LC1024-I/SM is the first of its kind to offer a single, small packaging that can be used for a wide range of applications. The dip package size is just 1.4mm x 2.6mm, with only 3 pins and can fit in any space or environment. It is easy to install, with no special drivers and is extremely reliable, with a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 1 million hours. The 25LC1024-I/SM operates on a standard 2.55 volts to 3.7 volts DC, with a maximum write pulse of 1 ms and a maximum sustainable write frequency of up to 1MHz.

The 25LC1024-I/SM is accessed via a serial bus. It contains 1,048,576 bits that are organized as 131,072 8-bit “bytes”. Access to the device requires a simple three-wire interface, consisting of a Data (DQ), Clock (SCLK) and ChipSelect (CS) line. The CS line is used to select the 25LC1024-I/SM, allowing multiple chips to be connected in the same system. The Data line is used to transmit and receive data, while the Clock line is used to synchronize with the Data line. All communication starts with an 8-bit data address, followed by a 16-bit write/read command. The device allows several different write/read commands, each offering different capabilities.

The 25LC1024-I/SM offers three distinct write/read commands. The "Write" command allows for up to 128 individual bytes to be written, whether one at a time or all at once. The "Read" command will read the data from the device\'s buffer. This is perfect for streaming data to a program, such as monitoring data from a sensor. The "Page Write" command allows for up to 64 bytes of data to be written at once. These commands are transmitted via the DQ line, and each has different number of bytes associated with it.

The 25LC1024-I/SM also offers a range of protection features. It has built-in write protection, allowing it to protect specific sections of the chip from being written to. It also offers an overall “bulk” write protection feature that will protect the entire chip from writing, should the user choose to enable this feature. The chip has several write protect “modes”, one of which is known as “permanent write protect”. This mode will lock the chip and prevent any further writing to it.

The 25LC1024-I/SM also offers a power loss protection feature. When power is lost, the chip will protect its RAM and EEPROM content from corruption. It also features an internal power-on reset circuit that will properly initialize the device following power up. Finally, the device also features an “information page” that the user can use to store custom information about the data stored on the device.
