Thyristors, sometimes referred to as Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers (SCR), are a type of semiconductor device. They are a three layer diode – two p-type layers sandwiching an n-type. A Silicon-Controlled Rectifier is identical in construction to a thyristor except for its lack of gate control.The 2N1915 is a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) which is used in various applications. Working Principle

When the voltage reaches a certain point, the current will start flowing through the device, and the SCR will be in the ON-state.The same process can be reversed if the gate voltage is reversed. This will switch the device into the OFF state, which it will remain as long as the gate voltage remains reversed.The SCR can also be switched into the OFF state by reducing the anode-cathode voltage below a certain level. This is known as reverse breakdown voltage.
