Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, like all capacitors, are components of electrical circuits that store and release electric energy. The aluminum electrolytic capacitor (AEC) is a type of electric double-layer capacitor that uses an electrolyte, consisting of a dilute solution of ethylene glycol or glycerin, and a porous separator, between the extended surfaces of two aluminum foils. This structure creates two electric conductive layers, one for each of the foils, so that each side serves as one of the capacitor\'s \'plates\' or terminals.
