3EZ30D5-TP Application Field and Working Principle

The 3EZ30D5-TP single zener diode is a semiconductor device that specifically utilizes the zener breakdown voltage effect for the purpose of generating stabilized and accurate voltages, and regulating voltage levels. The 3EZ30D5-TP applications range from side-by-side installation of multiple diodes for the provision of dual voltage power supplies, to setup and use in Zener Voltage regulator circuits. In the 3EZ30D5-TP diode, a zener diode is a diode with a heavily doped p-n junction that breaks down when the reverse bias voltage reaches a voltage known as the zener voltage or the breakdown voltage.

Initially, the diode will draw a small current—except in the case of a zero-bias voltage or short-circuit, where the current may be proportionally higher. This current is the Zener or breakdown current, and it is some tens of milliamps. The breakdown or Zener voltage of a specified diode is printed on the device marking. The bulk resistance of the diode reverse-biased is known as the Reverse breakdown voltage, and this figures around tens of ohms for the 3EZ30D5-TP diode.

The primary function of a zener diode is to provide a regulated voltage. As the input voltage varies and increases, the Zener breakdown voltage remains constant. This derives from the fact that the zener diode is connected in reverse bias, so in effect the zener diode opposes the flow of current through the circuit. This process effectively compensates for any changes in input voltage and reduces the output voltage, thereby stabilizing the voltage at a safe (but adjustable) level.

The 3EZ30D5-TP is used when the need arises to supply two separate voltages. This is achieved by fixing two series-connected diodes between the AC power line and the load connection. The 3EZ30D5-TP diode, with its high-current carrying capacity, is chosen for the duty because it allows the voltage drop across it to remain constant over varying load current. It has a power rating of 500mW (500 milliwatts).

Meanwhile, the application of the 3EZ30D5-TP in Zener voltage regulator circuits has to do with the fact that Zener diodes have a greater tolerance of voltage drop as well as greater current handling capacity as compared to regular diodes. Hence, combining the zener diode with further electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, and so on can its voltage-stabilizing capability. In addition, the 3EZ30D5-TP diode works in combination with a transistor to allow the least variation of the output voltage—even under load or current variation—with an addition of a resistor and/or capacitor to form what is known as a Zener Voltage Regulator Circuit. As the transistor is connected to the output of the Zener diode, this transistor acts to increase the current passing through the diode, thus boosting its current capability and aiding the diode to regulate the output voltage at a desirable level.

Hence, the 3EZ30D5-TP diode is a capable and essential electronic device for either providing dual voltage output in side-by-side installation of multiple diodes; as well as creating Zener Voltage Regulator circuits whose purpose is to create and maintain a regulated output voltage across varying input voltage or load variation.
