Introduction

Working Principle

The 3EZ47D2/TR12 Zener diode uses a semiconductor junction barrier to control the voltage that is supplied from the terminals of the device when a reverse-biased junction is present. This reverse biased junction is present when a voltage greater than the Zener voltage (Vz) is applied to the diode. Once the voltage exceeds the reverse breakdown voltage of the diode, the reverse current increases exponentially as the voltage applied increases, meaning that more current flow can be allowed once the breakdown voltage is reached. This breakdown voltage is indicated by the Vz option.In order to achieve the required current and voltage stability, the construction of the 3EZ47D2/TR12 Zener diode is composed of many individual rectifying layers. These layers allocate the correct electric field over the whole device, which allows to control the voltage and current.In conclusion, the 3EZ47D2/TR12 is an energy efficient, low noise and high stability Zener diode mainly used for a variety of AC/DC circuits, current limiting, rectifying and other low voltage applications.
