Diodes - Zener - Single

Diodes generally refer to two-terminal semiconductor devices whose main purpose is to conduct electrical current in one direction but prevent in another. Zener diodes are a special kind of diode that allow current to flow in both directions but are also capable of operating in reverse. When subjected to a voltage greater than the device\'s breakdown voltage, the diode will push the current through in a reverse direction and regulate the voltage. This means that if the voltage exceeds the diode\'s permitted level, the diode will limit the current that can flow, making the voltage stay constant. A single Zener diode, such as the 3EZ9.1D10/TR8, is the simplest form of this device and is primarily suited for applications in circuit protection.

Applications

The 3EZ9.1D10/TR8 is designed to act as a voltage regulator in order to protect circuits and other components from being overstressed. Working Principle

Any attempt to increase the current beyond this level will result in an increase in the voltage across the diode until the peak point of the diode is reached, after which the current will become unstable and cause the device to fail.
