TVS diodes are widely used components in the electronics industry. The working principle of the 3KP16 is based on the principle of current clamping. When there is an overvoltage transient present, the MOSFET switch and Zener diode clamp the voltage across the device to a safe level. The series MOSFETs act as a very fast switch to ensure that the protection response is immediate and the voltage spikes that follow the initial clamp are safely diverted, thus protecting the connected components from any further damage.

The 3KP16 is also designed to have an extremely low capacitance for high-speed signal transmission. In addition, it offers thermal stability to allow for adjustable voltage levels and an adjustable reverse breakdown voltage. The device also complies with IEC 61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5 surge requirements.
