The 3KP160C-B is a Surface Mount transient voltage suppression diode that can handle IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 (15kV Air/ 8kV Contact) Electrostatic Discharges events up to a maximum peak pulse current of 160A at 10/1000μs.It is an ideal ESD protection solutions for applications in Data lines, USB2.0 Ports, UARTs, keyboards, mouse and other human interfaces. It is suitable for high speed data and signal lines interface, providing ESD protection up to 300W and 15kV. It is designed to protect against over-voltage transients in applications such as communication systems, computer peripherals, and audio-video systems.

Working Principle

The 3KP160C-B bidirectional TVS diode works by clamping transient voltages to protect sensitive electronic components. It uses a two terminal semiconductor structure with an insulated gate. When an overvoltage transient occurs, the gates on the TVS diode is forward-biased, allowing a large current to flow between the anode and cathode. This current is discharged safely to the ground and dissipated, thereby protecting the device from damage. The TVS diode then returns to a steady-state low-leakage, low-voltage condition as the transient has passed, providing complete protection against further transient voltages.

The 3KP160C-B is designed specifically for high speed data and signal line protection and offers superior surge robustness and bidirectional ESD protection. Its glass passivated chip provides high reliability and superior ESD protection up to 15kV contact/25kV air discharge.
