TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) are used in a variety of applications, such as AC and DC lightning protection, to protect sensitive electronic systems from voltage spikes, as well as to protect circuits from electrostatic discharge (ESD). The 3KP9.0 series of TVS-Diodes are specifically designed to provide protection in both AC and DC voltage applications.
3KP9.0 is a Robust transient voltage suppressor diode with excellent surge performance. It provides superior suppression of induced transient voltage surges up to 3000W (10/1000µs) for AC and 9.0kW (8/20µs) for DC applications. The 3KP9.0 series possesses a wide range of safe operating area (SOA) with a triple protection of low current leakage, exceedingly low junction capacitance and ultra-low dynamic resistance.
In addition, the 3KP9.0 has a wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 125°C and a minimum breakdown voltage of 5.5 Volts. This allows for operation over a wide range of temperatures and voltage levels. This allows for effective protection and reliable operation of circuits over both time and temperature variations.
The working principle behind the 3KP9.0 series of TVS-Diodes is simple – they provide protection from transient voltage surges by utilizing a Zener diode in parallel with a Metal-Oxide Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET). In the event of a transient surge, the MOSFET will move from the OFF state to the ON state, allowing a flow of electrical current to pass through the diode, thus limiting the surge voltage.
In addition, the 3KP9.0 also features a highly integrated circuit design which eliminates most of the external components that are typically required in other TVS-Diodes. This means that less board space is required, allowing for a more efficient and cost effective solution. This also improves the product reliability, making it ideal for high reliability applications.
