The 42106HS is a high-frequency, low-noise, low-power, dual-junction, bipolar junction transistor (BJT) that operates at 25 gigahertz (GHz). It is designed for use in high-performance radio-frequency (RF) amplifier applications within a range of frequency from 10 kHz to 25 GHz and is Optimized for long-term reliability. It is also characterized by an exceptionally low noise figure for an amplifier operating at that frequency range and enhanced gain and linearity even with low voltage operation.
The 42106HS is designed to be used in many RF communication applications such as Radar, GPS, satellite communications, ISM band, broadband, cell phones and wireless notifications. It can be used in RF amplifiers, antennae, modulators, receivers, switches, and sensors. The 42106HS helps to reduce SWAP (Size Weight and Power) in various applications by providing a low noise figure and a wide frequency range.
The working principle of the 42106HS is a type of BJT that is also called a lateral PNP transistor. It is different from other common transistors because its collector and emitter base regions are not formed on top of one another, but instead aligned side-by-side. A circuit connection is formed by having a third region that connects the current from the collector to the emitter.
The transistor\'s base-emitter junction receives the input signal and amplifies it for use in the device\'s output. The junction behaves similar to a diode, allowing a small current “Ic” to flow through the emitter-collector loop when a voltage “Vbe” is applied to the base-emitter junction. The current gain of the junction is hfe and is measured by the ratio of Ic to Ie, where Ie is the base current.
The transistor\'s collector-emitter junction further amplifies the current from the base-emitter junction. The current gain in this junction is called Beta and is dependent on the temperature, certain biasing techniques and the operating frequency range. The thermal resistance between the collector and the junction is kept low and the voltage across the collector-emitter junction is kept high for maximum power gain. The current gain at this juncture is also high, making it possible to achieve both small-signal and large-signal amplifications from the same device.
The collector-base junction of the 42106HS further amplifies the current. However, the current gain in this junction is substantially lower than the base-emitter junction and is subject to gain compression under large-signal conditions. The overall gain is nonetheless high due to the combination of the two junctions and their amplifications. The low voltage-drop across the collector-emitter junction helps to ensure efficiency and power gain, while the high current gain helps the device to handle high-power signals.
Overall, the 42106HS is an advanced high performance bipolar junction transistor designed to serve a range of high-frequency radio-frequency amplifier applications. It has an exceptionally low noise figure for an amplifier operating in the 25 GHz range, and offers outstanding gain and linearity even at low voltages.
