Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output

The 4N29300 optically-isolated transistor is part of a family of optoisolators consisting of many different types. This series of optoisolators are designed for applications involving electric power conversion, such as power inverters, when isolation between the input and output of a power converter is required. An optoisolator is a device that uses a light-emitting diode (LED) to transmit an electrical signal with total insulation between the input and output section. In this way, an input signal can be transferred without any electrical interference from the output section, ensuring higher safety and isolation of both the device and the system it is a part of.

The 4N29300 optoisolator consists of an infrared LED and an output buffer IC. The LED provides voltage-driven switching of the output buffer IC. The output buffer IC tolerates and switches the output voltage from 0V to 28V under operating conditions. The Infrared LED transmits an electrical signal of up to 25mA current to the output buffer. The output buffer IC then amplifies and switches the input signal with a total isolation voltage of up to 5000 VDC.
