The 5.0SMCJ26ATR TVS Diode is designed to suppress transients up to an average peak pulse power of 1,500 watts. Its working principle is that, when an overvoltage occurs on the anode side, the minimum breakdown voltage is reached and the I-V curve is inverted. At this moment, the heavily doped intrinsic region will act as a bipolar junction transistor (BJT). Then electrons will be injected into the n+ region from the anode side and holes will be injected from the cathode side into the p+ region. This creates a large decrease in the resistance of the diode so that current can flow.
